Kai, age 9
My
sons, Jordan, 12 and Kai, 9, love their KidsSave
software. Jordan has entrusted his younger brother
to hold and keep track of his money for him.
Whenever they get their weekly allowance, birthday
money or money from odd jobs, Kai goes straight to
the computer to log in his earnings in KidsSave. Kai
is saving up to buy a laptop computer for he and his
brother to share so they can do their homework and
play games. He realizes it may take awhile to reach
his goal, but he is patient and frugal. Kai puts
half of his gift money in his college fund as does
Jordan and saves the rest to put towards his goal.
Kai has saved $230 so far and is always on the
lookout for odd jobs and creative ways to make more
money.

Ryan, age 9, sharing the netbook laptop he bought
with his own money.
"Ryan already had $100 in the bank and then saved
for two months actively. He participated in all
levels of researching it. I wish I had tape
recorded the questions that he asked the lady at
Fry’s (gave us insight into his priorities)." Ingrid, December 2009

Kids'-Only Yard Sale - Carmichael, CA
May, 2009
The picture to the left and the next several pictures
are from the kids'-only yard sale. Kids set up
their wares under the beautiful trees and customers
browsed all the great deals. Kids cleaned
their closets and sold gently used clothes, toys,
games, puzzles, books, dolls, stuffed animals, and
so much more. Others sold lemonade, punch,
soda, and home-made brownies. Kids also got
creative and made their own wooden rubber band
shooters while others sold flowers wrapped in
colorful tissue.
It was a great way for kids to earn a little extra
money and bring out their entrepreneurial spirits!

My name is Hannah. I just got accepted into
Cal Poly's liberal arts college with a concentration
in graphic design and I'm
totally psyched. I just bought a 15" Macbook Pro
for school. It's insanely awesome.
The total cost for the computer was $1922. I
already had $500 and my mom said she'd pay for $600.
It took me 6 months to save the rest. I make amazing hula hoops for my
mom's classes and sell them for a $35 profit each.
Using that money and the money I get for designing
business logos and posters for the local high school
music program where I live, I was able to make up
the difference.

Angie finished her weekend of dog sitting this past
weekend. 2 labs for 2 days. She also has
future dog sitting already on the calendar.
She earned $30 for 3 days of dog sitting.

Hi my name is Jacob, I am 14
years old and I am from California. I am very
involved in the Boy Scouts of America and I love it.
It took me 3 months to earn the 250 dollars I needed
to pay for Scout Camp. I saved by doing a paper
route, mowing lawns, babysitting, and selling candy.
The incentive for Scout Camp was Merit Badges and a
good time. I earned the money and was able to earn 6
Merit Badges and even swim a mile. I had an AWESOME
time and am very glad that I worked hard and earned
the money for Scout Camp.
My name is Taylor and
I'm 16 years old. I had the chance to go to NY with
my classmates. It was very expensive and I needed
to contribute $500. I started saving up my
money and I figured out that I could raise enough
money if I put every other paycheck I received in my
account for my trip. I work in a dentist's office
and the paychecks that I saved were $150 each. I had
to save one check a month, so on the 4th month I had
enough money. Saving every other paycheck helped a
lot because I got the money I needed in a short
amount of time, and I still had a little left over
each month to buy anything else that I wanted.
My daughter did actually reach her savings goal for
the trip this December. We are actually traveling
this Friday. Yipeee!! Her task was to save
$150 and ended up saving $213!!! I just had her draw
up her Needs and Wants list today so she can at
least have some shopping plans in mind. I am so
proud of her. KidsSave is awesome, she will be
using it to begin saving again in the new year.

Ryan from California. My name is Ryan and I’m 13
years old. My favorite sports are running and
biking. I enter a lot of local races and I do pretty
well. I decided to buy a mountain bike so that I
could enter in duathalons. That’s where you run and
bike in the same race. We have a lot of cool trails
here. My bike cost $350. I saved for 5 months 4 days
using my paper route money ($45/month) and some
other money I had from helping my mom teach summer
math camps. I LOVE my bike!
Nathan from California. Hey, my name
is Nathan and I'm 15. I'm an avid golfer and
when I noticed that my clubs were getting too small
I wanted to buy a set of irons ($875) that I would
be able to use throughout my high school years.
I already had about $450 from my paper route so I
needed to save $200 because I sold my old set for
$225. I worked for my neighbor doing
back-breaking yard work. I now have the irons
and am always getting compliments about how nice
they are.
